1949:

F.W. Hollming Oy started work on a cargo ship in order to get experience in steel construction.

5.1.1950:

Keel of a 1,200 dwt cargo vessel for own account was laid down. 

20.6.1951:

Launched by F.W. Hollming Oy, Rauma /Raumo (#50) and named VILPPO by Mrs Rauha Hollming. Put up for sale.

Registered in Rauma ship register with no. 587.

7.6.1952:

Sold to Masinoimport, U.S.S.R.

24.12.1952:

Completed and delivered as JAKAN (ЯАКАН) to Masinoimport and handed over to USSR - Far Eastern Shipping Co., Vladivostok.

1966:

Transferred to USSR - Murmansk Shipping Co., Murmansk.

Fitted with a "new" engine - made in 1951 - as follows:

Diesel Engine 2 SA 8 cy.

1975:

Spelling of the ship´s name amended in Lloyd´s Register as YAKAN.

1992:

Owners´name amended as Murmansk Shipping Co. (MSC) after the collapse of the U.S.SR.
