Maritime town Rauma

Merchant ships sailed into Rauma port as early as in the 15 th century, but Rauma developed into a significant shipping town 400 years later than this. For a period of a few years, from 1892 to 1898, Rauma boasted the largest sailing fleet in Finland. The number of vessels reached its top, 57, in 1895. The tonnage of Rauma fleet was at its highest in 1898, totalling 23,463 register ton.
